Over the years many LS400’s have suffered from blacked-out instrument clusters. The LS400 had a unique instrument illumination with backlit dials and fluorescent needles. Almost every LS400 suffers from partial or full breakdown of the instrument cluster. And there are several issues with the fuel and temperature gauges that aren’t working. For the most part, these problems can be fixed, only broken needles (which are miniscule fluorescent tubes) can’t be fixed. But there are various solutions to that problem.
The instrument cluster is the most delicate electronic part that I work on, it is time consuming and complex. Every instrument panel gets completely disassembled, cleaned and repaired. However, for me this is a ‘work in progress’ since I haven’t seen (and with that: fixed) all the known issues.
